Description

The IT Infrastructure Engineer role is to provide reliable and efficient support for the Trust's network and IT infrastructure, maintaining all operational activities of the technical infrastructure environment and the associated services they provide to the Trust.

To provide technical expertise within the Network and Infrastructure field: identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of the Trust and its customers.

Work closely with other members within the team and department, troubleshooting issues and working on complex projects.

This is a customer facing role, including face-to-face, spoken and written communication. You will also need to attend and lead in business meetings, liaising with internal departments and external companies providing a high quality customer & professional service at all times.

This role will be expected to participate in a 24/7 on-call rota and planned maintenance activities outside of core office hours as required by the business.

KEY RESULT AREAS/RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for implementing and maintaining network and infrastructure to ensure the IT operational services are available to the Trust's users, including:

o Network (Ethernet & Wi-Fi)

o External Connectivity (WAN)

o Firewalls

o All network and Infrastructure systems/equipment hosted locally and offsite

o Infrastructure support (UC) and associated systems

o Data Centre Management

o Virtual Server environment

o Storage Area Network (SAN)

o Microsoft Server infrastructure

o Service Availability

  • Responsible for completing all assigned tickets within the Service Desk system (diagnosing and resolving faults) in line with service level agreements and escalating any likely breaches.
  • Managing system updates and upgrades with minimal impact on the production environment.
  • Responsible for documenting systems and infrastructure configuration.
  • Providing specialist knowledge and expertise to the business to help deliver business objectives.

Essential Knowledge

  • Extensive IT experience focussing on IT infrastructure gained within an enterprise environment.
  • Evidence of delivering IT solutions across multiple disciplines.
  • Knowledge of IT "best practice" standards, procedures, policies and protocols.
  • Detailed specialist knowledge and expertise in the following key infrastructure areas:

o LAN

o WAN

o Wireless

o Firewalls

o VMWare vSphere, vRanger, VDP

o Storage (SAN/NAS)

o Microsoft Active Directory

o Microsoft Windows Server

Please note this is a contract role until end March 2020 with the view of extension until end March 2021. Hours of work are 37.5 hours a week.
