Our client, a fully independent, highly regarded school in York is looking for a Chef to join their kitchen team. The school has a first class reputation and the successful candidate will be driven by creating a positive food culture and helping more students lead better and healthier lives. As a Chef you will be one of the key members of the catering department, overseeing the work of the kitchen porters and liaising with the food service staff and actively reporting to the Senior Chef.
Chef - Job Description
- Great time management skills, energy, drive and positive manner throughout the day to day operation
- Be able to communicate effectively with staff providing efficient service and smooth running of the kitchen when the Senior Chef is absent.
- Have a passion for healthy food and creative flair, responsible for prepping, cooking and service of food
- Ensuring all dishes and recipes are produced and prepped to the quality required by the school
- Preparing food for service, appropriate to planned levels of consumption ensuring temperatures, seasoning and flavourings are to specification.
- Works well under pressure and comfortable in a flexible fast paced environment
- Ensure that the storage of food meets school and statutory health and safety requirements
- Ensure all food is well presented for service in a timely manner and maintaining menu variety throughout each service period.
- Ensure the kitchen is maintained and regularly cleaned and kept to a high standard.
- Can work on own initiative to deal with problems, comments and complaints.
- Promote a positive perception of the schools reputation at all times both internally and externally.]
- Ensure temperature records and food labelling systems are kept up to date.
- Catering for large numbers alongside keeping up to date with current food trends.
- Prepare food various functions in which we hold for parents, staff and other school visitors.
Person Specification
- Have pride and passion about food, cooking and catering service in general.
- Maintain high standards of personal hygiene and be well kept of his/her appearance.
- Understand the demands and needs of customer service catering for dietary requirements and maintaining high standards.
- Be willing to be flexible to reflect changing requirements of the school.
- Be highly aware of the importance of Child Protection and Safeguarding of young people.
- Be prepare to undergo the appropriate training as requested.
- Exercising total discretion and uphold confidentiality.
- Support the schools ethos of a full boarding school and boarding education.
Essential Requirements
- Enhanced DBS check (carried out by the school and satisfactory references)
- 706 1/2 or NVQ Equivalent and Level 2 Hygiene Certificate
